I've setup a device pool with the 2 USB drives in it. I didn't want a whole lot of drive letters to look at so rather then assigning drive letters to the USB drive's I've opted to mount them to NTFS folders, you can do this in the disk manager.ĭrive 1 mounted to F:\externalmounts\Daily1ĭrive 2 mounted to F:\externalmounts\Daily2į:\externalmounts\Daily1\backup - not the root of the drive so that BUexec will find the path for the device as invalid if the drive is not attached. We use two USB drives for offsite backups, #1 for week1 #2 for week 2, we also use Monthly's but I don't want to overcomplicate this blurb. I have a dedicated backup system running windows XP pro, backup exec 10.0 Here is what I've done to get this working for me. (Oh.running Win2000 Server SP4, BE 10.1 fully patched) I have not initiated this process yet.does anyone else have a simpler solution? However, it doesn't matter which of the two ports I plug into.Windows still sees the disk as the same logical drive. If he swaps the drive while the server is rebooting, it boots, detects the drive, and runs as normal.Īs part of the solution, I installed a 2-port USB adapter. The only thing that I've thought of that makes sense (in design and simplicity) is to have my client reboot the server when he changes the usb drive. The problem is that I am not onsite, and need a dirt simple procedure for my client to follow to swap drives and have everything run smoothly. Like others, everything works fine until I need to swap drives. I've seen another tech do this successfully before, but I'm not sure what he did to make it happen smoothly.
Backup exec 2010 jobs not running full#
I have 4 - 60GB usb drives that I want to rotate (in the same fashion as tapes) running a full backup, then differentials for the rest of the week.
Backup exec 2010 jobs not running Offline#
Once it sees that Device 1 (H:\usb1\backupfolder) is not available it marks the drive Offline and never brings it back unless until i plug the drive in and select Online.Īm I making this too hard? Anyone have a way that works? Thanks all. Every time the job runs Veritas will look at the pool. While each usb drive continues to take the same drive letter, I have created a single folder on each: Create 3 different "Backup-to-Disk Folders". After I create the first device (on H:, for example) I plug the next drive in and Veritas tells me it cannot use the same letter.Ģ.

Create 3 different "Removable Backup-to-Disk Devices". My job is set to run against the default "all devices" device pool.

Only one usb will ever be plugged in at a time (drive2 will be plugged into the same usb cable after drive1 is removed, etc). I want to do a daily backup of my server to one of three usb drives.
